Lahore: Former league sniper Danish Kaneria has made some startling remarks about former captain Shahid Afridi.
He said Afridi kept him out of the ODI squad and treated him unfairly because of his religion.
Following the spot-fixing case, the ECB banned Kaneria from all forms of cricket in 2012.
Danish Kaneria represented Pakistan in 61 Tests and 18 ODIs. He still has the most Test wickets for Pakistan from a sniper.
Dinesh Kaneria also talked about Shoaib Akhtar and how he talked openly about the abuse that happened to him.
According to private news channel, Dinesh Kaneria said that Shoaib Akhtar was the first person who spoke on my issue in public. I salute him for telling me how I was treated badly in the team for being a Hindu, but later he was pressured by several officials after which he stopped talking about it. But yes, it happened to me. I was always looked down upon by Shahid Afridi. We used to play together for the same department and he kept me on the bench and did not allow me to play ODIs.
According to Dinesh Kaneria, Afridi was jealous of his performance.
Dinesh Kaneria said that Shahid Afridi did not want me to be in the team, he was a liar and manipulator because he is a characterless person.
My focus was only on cricket and I ignored all these tactics.
Shahid Afridi was the only person who went to other players and incited them against me, I was performing well and they were jealous of me, I am proud to have played for Pakistan for which I would be grateful.
Dinesh Kaneria also asked the PCB to consider lifting the ban on them and allow them to lead a peaceful life.
