PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has backed down in the second phase of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) local body elections. According to details, unofficial unconfirmed results are continuing to emerge after the polling in connection with the second phase of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The PTI is leading in the preliminary unofficial preliminary results of a total of 63 tehsil mayoral seats in the 18 districts of the province.
According to media reports, in the unofficial preliminary results, the ruling party PTI has managed to win 32 out of 63 tehsil mayoral seats, however, the full result of any tehsil mayoral seat has not been revealed yet. Opposition parties, which won the first round of local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, are far behind this time.
According to unofficial preliminary results, the parties in the opposition alliance have so far won 16 seats. JUI-F has 11 seats, PML-N has 4 seats while PPP and ANP have 1.1 seats each. It may be mentioned that polling in the second phase of local body elections in 18 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continued from 8 am to 5 pm. Polling was peaceful and no complaints were received in the control room and no untoward incident took place.
The turnout of women in the local body elections was slightly lower but the women who came to cast their votes came to cast their votes without any fear or danger. The Election Commission has also set up a Central Control Room in the Election Commission Secretariat for registration and disposal of grievances which will continue till the results come out. Strict security arrangements were made for the polling in the second phase of local body elections. The Chief Election Commissioner, Secretary Election Commission, and Special Secretary supervised the polling process.
