Pakistan’s Clean Sweep Against West Indies

Pakistan completed a clean sweep by defeating West Indies in the last match of the three-match ODI series.

In the third match, Pakistan had given a target of 270 runs to West Indies to win.

In response, the entire visiting team was bowled out for 216 runs in the 38th over.

Thus, Pakistan won the match by 53 runs.

Aqeel Hussain remained prominent by scoring 60 runs.

In the match played at Multan International Cricket Stadium, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 269 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the stipulated 48 overs.

Due to strong dusty winds during the match, the game was stopped for a while, after which the match was limited to 48 overs.

All-rounder Shadab Khan scored a career-best 86 runs for Pakistan.

He was named Player of the Match for playing match winning innings.

Apart from him, young opener Imam-ul-Haq continued his good performance in the third match as well and remained prominent by scoring 62 runs.

He was declared the Player of the Series for his outstanding performance throughout the series.

Besides, opener Fakhr Zaman scored 35 and Khushdal Shah 34 runs.

For West Indies, Nicholas Pooran took 4 wickets for 48 runs while Chemo Paul took 2 wickets for 57 runs.

23-year-old fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani made his ODI debut for Pakistan.

The Pakistan team includes captain Babar Azam (captain), Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Haris, Mohammad Rizwan, Khushdal Shah.

Besides, Muhammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Muhammad Wasim Jr., Hassan Ali, Shahnawaz Dahani are also part of the team.

The West Indies squad includes captain Nicholas Pooran, Shy Hope, Shamarha Brooks Brooks, Aqeel Hussain, Kyle Meyers, Roman Powell, Casey Carty, Jaden Sales, Chemo Paul, Romario Shepherd, Hayden Walsh Jr.

It should be noted that in the first match of the series, Pakistan successfully achieved the mountain-like target of 306 runs and defeated West Indies by 5 wickets.

In the second match of the series, Pakistan defeated West Indies by 120 runs to take a decisive lead in the series.

It is to be noted that the said series was part of West Indies tour of Pakistan in December 2021, however, the series was postponed after 5 cases of Code-19 came to light by mutual consent of Pakistan and West Indies.

In addition, the West Indies have agreed to a series of 3 T20 matches in early 2023, the schedule of which will be announced later.

The ODI series between Pakistan and West Indies is part of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League.

These matches in the ICC League have World Cup qualifiers status.

The top seven teams will qualify directly for the 2023 World Cup, while the Indian team has already made it to the hosts.

The mega event of 50 overs matches will be played in October / November next year.
